Many of you have taken our Basic, Essentials of River Kayaking class.
This class is only open to people who have taken the basic course or who have paddling experience..
THIS CLASS IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS!
We will be paddling the section of the Hooch from Buford Dam to Settles Bridge. We will be concentrating on boat control in moving water. We will be spending a lot more time learning how to perfect Eddy Turns, Peel Outs and Ferrying. All of these skills are essential if you have any desire to move up to white water paddling. Even if you have no desire to paddle anything over a class II, these skills will certainly come in handy and make you feel a lot more comfortable anytime you are on the water. Everyone in this class will be out of your boat in water over your head to practice safely re-entering your boat so you will be getting wet for sure. We will also introduce the use of a throw rope and how to move through fast water when out of your boat. You will have a chance to swim a class II rapid.
Yes, the water is cold, but you will never be in it for more than a few minutes, and you will come out feeling so refreshed!
In addition, if you are thinking about buying a boat, I will have several different models with me and we will switch around so you can all paddle something different.
If you have any questions, please call me.

What a great day on the river! I appreciate John's attention to details & safety. Everyone received individual attention & feedback. Thanks also to Pat for coming along as our 'safety back-up'. If you've taken the Beginning Kayak Class I highly recommend this as a follow up. Rescue throw rope practice, 'swimming' the rapids (and being rescued), and some more paddling skills will take you to the next level
