Intermediate Kayak Class-Please read entire announcement.

Many of you have taken our Basic, Essentials of River Kayaking class.

This class is only open to people who have taken the basic course or who have paddling experience..

THIS CLASS IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS!

We will be paddling the section of the Hooch from Buford Dam to Settles Bridge. We will be concentrating on boat control in moving water. We will be spending a lot more time learning how to perfect Eddy Turns, Peel Outs and Ferrying. All of these skills are essential if you have any desire to move up to white water paddling. Even if you have no desire to paddle anything over a class II, these skills will certainly come in handy and make you feel a lot more comfortable anytime you are on the water. Everyone in this class will be out of your boat in water over your head to practice safely re-entering your boat so you will be getting wet for sure. We will also introduce the use of a throw rope and how to move through fast water when out of your boat. You will have a chance to swim a class II rapid.

Yes, the water is cold, but you will never be in it for more than a few minutes, and you will come out feeling so refreshed!

In addition, if you are thinking about buying a boat, I will have several different models with me and we will switch around so you can all paddle something different.
If you have any questions, please call me.

What a great day on the river! I appreciate John's attention to details & safety. Everyone received individual attention & feedback. Thanks also to Pat for coming along as our 'safety back-up'. If you've taken the Beginning Kayak Class I highly recommend this as a follow up. Rescue throw rope practice, 'swimming' the rapids (and being rescued), and some more paddling skills will take you to the next level

This was one of the best classes of the year! The day started off a bit chilly, the water was very cold. As the day warmed up, the water was very cold. By the time we were ready to do the throw/rescue rope part of the class it had warmed up nicely, the water was very cold! Everyone swam the big rapid at least once, some several times. Everyone came away from that part of the class with a lot more respect for the force of the river, but also with a lot less fear of being out of the boats. The highlight of the course was moving Rhiannon from the status of River Mouse to being a full fledged RIVER RAT! She has her own boat now and is one of the most component 12 year old paddlers I have ever had in my class. Yes, she swam the rapid also with her very nervous mom cheering her own. Great job everyone. A special thanks to Pat Healy. It is always a joy to have him paddle with me to help me ride herd on the class>

My wife and I enjoyed the class and walked away feeling confident about our ability to paddle in any river up to class 2 rapids. John Miller has a talent for teaching that relates to all types of learning styles. The class we versatile in that we could practice those techniques that we needed the most help with. I will recommend this and the basic class to anyone who wants to learn kayaking.

John is an excelletn instructor with a true passion for what he does. He was determined that each and every one of us was to learn something and be able to take it away from the class and use it in the real world. I'm especially proud that with the guidance from John and Pat that my daughter Rhiannon went from "river mouse" to "river rat". Thank you both for taking care of her and guiding her thru the day.
